The sudden rise in smartphone popularity makes it strange to think that even as recently as 2004 they didn’t exist. Instead we had the handheld PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). Since 1992 PDAs had struggled to become popular, and by 2004 they were beginning to include powerful features that we now take for granted in our mobile phones.
